KAREN PAGE

Karen PAge

Karen Page has been playing music since age 11. Beginning in drums and percussion, she moved toward guitar, vocals and composition in the mid 90’s in her home town of Boise. In 2000, she came to Portland leaving behind her band Manic High, and many friends and mentors from Boise’s music scene.

In Portland, Karen’s musical ventures have been rich and successful. Her original music delivers a combination of simple, major toned (happy) hooks plus dark, bittersweet lyrics often centered around death and lost hope, a melancholy method that she absorbed from years of hanging around the Boise scene with Doug Martsch from Built To Spill, and Dan Krejci from 90’s grunge sensation the Dirt Fishermen.

Karen formed Portland band Polly High in 2006 with ex-Camaro Hair drummer Kevin Johnson, bassist Brooks Schaper, and former Blue Collar Scouts guitarist Ben Brown. Polly High's music is often described as folk rock meets the Cure, or a combination of folk, goth and indie pop.

Currently in the works is a Polly High ep with contributions from members of Everclear, Camaro Hair, Built To Spill, The Imprints and Mission 5. The ep, due out in early 2008, is produced by Karen Page and Imprints singer Rob Stroup at 8 Ball Studio here in Portland.

Karen is the bar Manager at Someday Lounge and invites you to come visit her for a drink! Viva L’arte!
