MARK of the MUZE with DORIEN and ADAM HURST
Our once-removed relationship to First Thursday is a chance to present an evening of music suited equally to those who wish to stay and those just passing through. Lance Grider's Mark of the Muze, celebrated Sumerland vocalist Dorien's solo work, and the long-form cello-and-guitar looping pedal improvisations of the masterful Adam Hurst bring works of crystalline beauty that can be appreciated in five minutes or savored for hours. Come and listen.
Mark Of The Muze breathes a mesmerizing, haunting and dreamy tone. The sound is ominously surreal, accented with a voice that is androgynous and intimately entrancing. Poetic lyrics evoke romanticism, reflection, emotion and rapture. This is not pop music.
Mark Of The Muze's recently released album, "Ocelli" (Under the Underground), is comprised of vocals, guitar, violin, cello, piano, horns, keyboards, harp, acoustic and electro beats. The record and live performances feature arrangements by artists from the Oregon Symphony, March Forth Marching Band, Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra, Portland Opera, Stalking Jane and others. Mark Of The Muze performs as a revolving ensemble or solo.
Vocal intonations are often compared to that of late Jeff Buckley and Jonsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros) while their music embodies compositional characteristics similar to late Elliott Smith and Portishead.
