MARK of the MUZE with DORIEN and ADAM HURST
Our once-removed relationship to First Thursday is a chance to present an evening of music suited equally to those who wish to stay and those just passing through. Lance Grider's Mark of the Muze, celebrated Sumerland vocalist Dorien's solo work, and the long-form cello-and-guitar looping pedal improvisations of the masterful Adam Hurst bring works of crystalline beauty that can be appreciated in five minutes or savored for hours. Come and listen.
Dorien's music emanates a sparse, romantic and haunting tone. His lyrics convey poetic sentimentalism, hermetic ramblings, bliss, and madness. Dorien's music is composed on a twelve string acoustic guitar and accented with string arrangements. His vocal intonation is often compared to that of Peter Murphy while his songs are reminiscent of Nick Drake.
In 2003, he contributed his rendition of "A Sadness Song" which appeared on the Current 93 tribute album "The Bells Shall Sound Forever". He opened for Death In June in 2005, and was soon after approached by producer Purekane.
After a year of pre-production and an abundance of wine, Dorien and Purekane are currently in the studio mixing a full-length debut, tentatively titled "Ivy Covered Walls,". The record prominently features gorgeous string arrangements by Oregon Symphony violinist Kelley Jeppesen.
