About the artist

Childhood Friends was formed by Ilima Considine and Jake Rose in winter of 2005. Ilima is the main songwriter and vocalist, with a voice somewhere between Bjork and a female Morrissey. Drawing from her classical background, her songs are emotional, operatic pop movements with minimal electronics. Enchanted 4ST was a progressive rock band founded by Portland native Rose. He writes highly conceptual songs(think Pink Floyd and King Crimson) and his vocal stylings have been compared to David Bowie. They have now merged into one band, Childhood Friends.

Enchanted 4ST first existed as a doomed, testosterone-fueled punk-prog 4-piece. The band was formed with the idea of performing and recording the songs for the LP, Synesthesia, which Jake had written previously. In December 2005, Jake reformed and reconceptualized the band. He recruited his wife Ilima Considine as bassist and used her classical violin training to re-work the lead guitar parts into violin solos. To fill in for the missing drummer, Jake began to carefully produce electronic tracks in their home studio/living room and to add space-age atmospheric effects and homemade samples to further develop the new sound. The duo sing and play instruments live over these soundtracks. The album Synesthesia was entirely self-produced in rentals around SE Portland with an attention to detail that rises to the level of fanaticism.
