Part of the daunting wave of innovative new bands that has crashed over the decks of Portland during the past few years, Zdrastvootie made a very strange name for themselves in the Transbay Music Scene of San Francisco before deciding that even Oakland was too square for their thunderstorm hearts. Wagner was born in 1920, broke from the neoclassicists with his love of Hungarian folk dances, and finally came into his own as a composer just as the big band era reached its end and the age of small ensemble bebop came to pass. He called his band Zdrastvootie, and he hated the Nazis. They're playing at Someday Lounge, in post-war Berlin, for the first time since going into hiding.
Joining them is an event more recent transplant with a slightly less bizarre name, a solo songwriter with the monastic monniker of Brahma Lagah. Brahma is a post-asiatic experimental hip-hop artist of the Wu-Tang lineage, bred and spread on the hard streets of Allentown, PA before joining us all in the Great Northwestern Arts Migration. He brought his zen insights and Shaw Brothers Beats to us just this year, and joins us now at Someday just in time to beat the end of '06.
