BIZZART with JUAN THE MANNEQUIN
To a degree, Bizzart and Juan the Mannequin play on the fringe of the celebrated experimental Los Angeles hip-hop scene which includes hard-spitting Anticon afficionados like AWOL-One and Busdriver. But they both step with their left foot firmly grounded in the still-more-experimental crew surrounding underground fulcrums Il Corral and The Smell. They satisfy that particular sub-mission of hip-hop that requires the MC to be eternally questing for the very edge of the form, its most extreme and original expression. These boys sound like the future to me.
Once a spoken word artist turned M.C. turned abscratch expressionist Bizzart now occupies a circuit-bent performance art hip-hop space that none before him have dared occupy. A reformed poet who has lost faith in words alone, Bizzart has tucked Alkalyne's boom bap into bed with Accident's live jazz noise nightmares and together they dream of childhood and pray to a sometimes distant God. Features Awol One, I Heart Lung, Yarah Bravo and others. Produced by Alkalyne and Accident. Bizzart has toured across the world and has performed sets alongside artists from Soul-Junk and Deerhoof to Blackalicious and Busdriver. The product of an abusive home, Bizzart initially pursued art as therapy, helping himself deal with a tramatic upbringing that included the murder of his father. Today he divides his time teaching children at a private school in Pasadena, CA. and putting off escapism.
